Temporary Service Changes

The Center for Assessment, Referral and Education (CARE) is committed to the health and well-being of our campus community. On Monday, March 16, 2023, all University System of Georgia institutions temporarily suspended instruction for two weeks to allow time for those institutions to test their business continuity plans and online instruction modules, and for state officials to continue to assess the current situation regarding coronavirus (COVID-19) in Georgia. CARE follows recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Georgia Department of Health to practice social distancing, provide health education to our clients, and practice effective workplace hygiene as protection from contracting and spreading COVID-19. Therefore, the following temporary changes will be in effect:

CARE hours will maintain its regular operational hours to meet the needs of students with mental health concerns.
Clients who are triaged with concerns as urgent upon check-in will be seen by a clinician for a very brief assessment, providing referrals and emergency contact information.
Clients who are triaged to have non-urgent concerns or who need a follow-up appointment subsequent to their CARE assessment will be connected with a counselor via telephone to provide referrals and emergency contact information.

CARE clinicians will continue to offer case management services and brief periodic check-ins through email and telephone as appropriate for existing clients.
Students are encouraged to practice good hygiene, to stay at home if they are sick, to avoid close contact with people who are sick, and to practice social distancing.
After business hours, clients can continue to reach a counselor at any time via phone by calling our main number at (404) 894-3498 and selecting option 1 to speak with the after-hours counselor.

Located on the first floor of the Smithgall Student Services (Flag) Building, CARE is the primary resource for mental health support at Georgia Tech. Students seeking assistance from the Counseling Center or Stamps Psychiatry need to visit CARE first for a primary assessment and referral to on and off campus mental health and well-being resources.
